Out of 10 inhabitants in the world, six own a mobile phone. In Europe, they are even 10 out of 10, in Australia 8 out of 10, in the USA 7, but only 3 in Asia and 2 in Africa .
The fastest growing markets are Asia and Africa
Most impressive is the growth in Africa: there are 70 Million new subscribers every year. According to the International Telecommunications Union statistics, at the beginning of this Milllennium, only every 50th person in Africa owned a cell phone. Actually there is a total of 4,1 milliards mobile phones in use in the World and two thirds of them are in developing countries. In 2002 it was only half of that.

Mobile phones are not only used for calls. There are also used to

- receive radio or TV programs;
- take pictures or videos;
- remotely control multimedia devices
- receive local advertising or marketing
- pay for various services and
